Manchester City’s sluggish start to the new season continued on Wednesday night as they drew 2-2 against Monaco.

Erling Haaland put the visitors ahead early on in Monaco, before a stunning strike from Jordan Teze drew the hosts level just minutes later.

Haaland then grabbed his second to restore City’s advantage, but ex-Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier was then awarded a penalty after the foot of Nico Gonzalez collided with his head.

Dier duly dispatched the spot-kick, earning Monaco an impressive point and denying City victory.

Next up for Pep Guardiola’s side is a trip to West London to face Brentford on Saturday, before they host Everton after the international break.

In the meantime, however, it has emerged that City could battle it out with one of their Premier League rivals in the race to sign a Barcelona youngster.

As per Fichajes via CaughtOffside, City are lining up a move for Barcelona youngster Dro Fernandez.

The report claims that the Citizens are showing interest in the 17-year-old and could rival Chelsea for the player’s signature, with the Blues having also previously displayed an interest.

Fernandez made his senior debut for Barcelona against Real Sociedad in La Liga on Sunday, playing the first 45 minutes before being substituted off at half-time.

It is claimed that Manchester City are preparing an offer worth around £13 million for the teenager, who is a product of Barca’s famous La Masia academy.

Fernandez is under contract at Barcelona until the end of the 2026/27 season, but it appears that the Spanish side could soon face a battle to keep hold of the talented youngster with both Chelsea and Man City showing interest in the player.
