Premier League champions Manchester City host Chelsea on Saturday in a potentially huge clash in the race for Champions League qualification.

Pep Guardiola’s side have struggled so far this season, losing six and winning just 11 of their 22 Premier League matches.

The Citizens currently sit fifth in the top flight table, one place below Chelsea, but will move back into the top four if they defeat the Blues at The Etihad.

In the meantime, it appears that City are considering a move for a former Premier League star as a short-term solution for their midfield problems.

According to Football Insider, City are considering a loan move for Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz to appease their midfield troubles.

The Citizens have struggled since losing key midfielder Rodri to injury in September.

In the time since, City have lost six of their 17 Premier League matches, as well as being defeated three times in the Champions League.

Guardiola and those in charge of City’s recruitment are therefore keen to bolster his midfield options, and the report claims that they have identified Luiz as a suitable option.

The report suggests that the Brazilian is viewed as a short-term solution, with City considering a loan move that likely wouldn’t include an obligation-to-buy the player.

Luiz, 26, joined The Old Lady from Aston Villa last summer for a fee of £40 million but has since struggled to establish himself as a regular starter, making just 17 appearances across all competitions.

The Brazil international – who was previously part of City’s youth setup –  has started just three Serie A matches so far this term.

In Rodri’s absence, Guardiola has used the likes of Matheus Nunes, Mateo Kovacic and Rico Lewis at the base of midfield, but it appears that the Spaniard is keen to add another option to his squad before the transfer window shuts.
