Reigning champions Manchester City face Wolves when the Premier League returns next weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side currently sit second in the top flight standings, a single point behind early leaders Liverpool.

The Citizens have already been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of a record fifth consecutive top flight title, with instrumental midfielder Rodri having been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

The Spaniard suffered a ligament injury during City’s draw against Arsenal last month, and he will now missed the rest of the current season.

City could therefore look to strengthen Guardiola’s defensive midfield options in January, but in the meantime they are reportedly eyeing a move for an attacking midfielder.

As per Football Insider, the Manchester outfit are putting plans in place to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Georgiy Sudakov.

It is claimed that the Premier League champions are preparing for life without key player Kevin de Bruyne, who is currently in the final year of his contract.

Sudakov is a target for Manchester City

Sudakov has been in fine form for Ukrainian side Shakhtar in recent months, and he has therefore emerged as a target for City.

The 22-year-old is a product of Shakhtar’s youth system and has now played more than 110 times for the club across all competitions.

The playmaker has scored 27 goals and registered 20 assists for the club in that time, and his impressive displays have attracted interest from the Citizens.

Sudakov is contracted to his current club until the summer of 2028, and the report claims that Shakhtar would demand a ‘big transfer fee’ to even consider allowing the attacker to leave before then.

The report also claims that the Ukrainian side will be unwilling to do business in January, meaning the player will not be joining City during the mid-season transfer window.
