Manchester City moved top of the Premier League table with a 1-0 win over Southampton on Saturday.

Erling Haaland’s 14th goal of the season put the hosts ahead early on at The Etihad, but Pep Guardiola’s side were unable to find a second goal to kill the game off.

The result moved the Citizens top of the standings, although Liverpool could regain top spot by beating Arsenal at The Emirates on Sunday.

Off the pitch, City are said to be laying the groundworks to re-sign one of their former players from a Premier League rival.

According to Football Insider, City are putting plans in place to sign full-back Pedro Porro from Tottenham Hotspur.

The report claims that City are closely watching the Spaniard with a view to potentially re-signing him.

Porro, 25, spent time in City’s youth academy and had a loan spell with Sporting CP, before joining the Portuguese side permanently in 2022.

Porro is a target for former club Manchester City

He then signed on loan for Spurs in January last year, before making the move permanent six months later.

In total, Porro has now played more than 60 times for Tottenham across all competitions, scoring eight times and providing ten assists.

He has started the new season impressively, starting all eight of Spurs’ Premier League games so far.

The report suggests that City are planning ahead for Kyle Walker’s eventual departure from the club, and they have therefore identified Porro as a suitable replacement for the England international.

Despite not playing a single senior game for City during his three-year spell with the club, Porro has emerged as one of their top targets at right-back after impressing for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Porro is contracted to Spurs until the end of the 2027/28 season, and the report suggests that the London side value him at around £80 million.
