Premier League champions Manchester City continue their preparations for the new season with a friendly against Spanish giants Barcelona on Wednesday.

The Citizens have suffered surprise defeats against both Celtic and AC Milan so far this summer, and manager Pep Guardiola will expect to see his side improve before the season starts competitively with the Community Shield early next month.

City’s only signing of the summer so far has been winger Savio, signed from sister club Troyes after impressing at Girona – another member of the same ownership group – in La Liga last season.

Guardiola could still delve once again into the transfer market before the window shuts at the end of August, but in the meantime it appears that City have set a surprisingly low asking price for one of their stars.

As per Football Insider, City are willing to allow the player to leave this summer for a fee in the region of £40 million.

Alvarez could leave The Etihad before the end of the current transfer window

The Argentina international – who is currently on international duty at The Olympic Games in Paris – has been heavily linked with a move away from The Etihad in recent weeks, amid speculation that he is frustrated at his relative lack of playing time in Guardiola’s side.

Alvarez, 24, joined Man City from Argentinian side River Plate in 2022 and has since enjoyed enormous success in Manchester, winning the treble in his first season with the club before retaining the Premier League title last term.

The Argentine attacker has scored 36 goals and registered 18 assists in 103 games for the Citizens across all competitions since his switch from his homeland, but the report claims that the Manchester club could be willing to sell the forward in the coming weeks.

Guardiola has recently admitted that the player – who won the World Cup with Argentina in December 2022 – could leave Man City this summer, while the player himself has said he will make a decision on his future following the conclusion of Argentina’s Olympic campaign.
