Manchester City stayed just a point behind Premier League leaders Liverpool with a 3-2 win over Fulham at The Etihad on Saturday.

A Mateo Kovacic brace and a Jeremy Doku goal earned Pep Guardiola’s side an important victory against the Cottagers, who had taken the lead through Andreas Pereira and scored late on courtesy of Rodrigo Muniz.

The result leaves City second in the table, a single point behind the Reds.

Guardiola will hope to see his side win a seventh trophy in the past eight years, and the Citizens can also extend their record of most consecutive top flight titles that they gained by winning the league last term.

With the January transfer window fast approaching, City’s title rivals may soon be dealt a daunting blow.

According to Football Insider, the reigning Premier League champions will have plenty of money to spend when the window reopens.

City will be able to spend the £80 million they received from the sale of Julian Alvarez when the transfer window reopens

The report claims that City’s generous budget will come in part from the sale of forward Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid over the summer.

The Argentina international was sold to the La Liga side for a fee of around £81.5 million, and the report claims that they have set aside around £80 million to spend during the mid-season window.

A midfielder is likely to be top of Guadiola’s shopping list, following the news that Rodri is expected to miss the remainder of the current campaign due to injury.

Despite this, it is suggested that City’s preference would be to find a solution to Rodri’s absence from within the current squad.

The likes of Mateo Kovacic, Rico Lewis and Matheus Nunes will all be vying to assert themselves as Rodri’s replacement, but the report claims that, if a suitable player is available, City do have the funds to sign someone.
