Manchester City face German side RB Leipzig in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie on Wednesday.

Pep Guardiola’s side travel to Germany just days after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Nottingham Forest at The City Ground, missing out on the chance to return to the top of the Premier League table.

The reigning champions currently sit two points behind The Gunners but they have also played one more game than their opponents, who have surprised many people with their superb run of form so far this term.

City will be without a number of players, including John Stones and Kevin de Bruyne, for their trip to Leipzig, which could prompt Guardiola to rotate his squad.

The likes of Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva will be the most likely candidates to replace De Bruyne, although both players’ City futures are currently in doubt.

The former’s current contract is set to expire this summer and he is expected to leave the club amid reported interest from clubs in Spain and Germany, while Silva has requested to leave The Etihad during each of the last two summer transfer windows and could once again look to leave.

That would leave Guardiola short of midfield options, and City are therefore already looking at potential targets for the summer window.

Maddison is attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs

According to Football Insider, City are one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.

The midfielder has been in fine form this season, attracting interest from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, as well as The Citizens.

Despite the interest, Maddison’s current club Leicester remain hopeful that the player will sign an extension to his current contract with the club, which is due to expire next summer.

The Foxes have made Maddison captain at The King Power Stadium, but the midfielder is yet to show any signs that he may extend his deal.

If they are forced to sell him this summer, Leicester are expected to look for between £60-£70 million for Maddison, who joined the club from Norwich City back in 2018.

Since then, the 26-year-old has scored 54 goals and provided 37 assists in all competitions for The Foxes, with this season having been a particularly successful one so far.

This term, Maddison has scored nine goals and provided five assists in 17 Premier League matches, and his form during the first half of the campaign earned him a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup in Qatar, although he didn’t feature for The Three Lions.

Newcastle have been interested in Maddison for a while now, but the report claims that they were priced out of a move for the midfielder last summer.
