Manchester City face rivals Manchester United in the Community Shield on Saturday.

The reigning Premier League champions face the Red Devils, who beat the Citizens in the FA Cup final at the end of last season.

Pep Guardiola’s side were also defending the Champions League and FA Cup last term, but failed to retain either trophy.

The Spaniard will therefore be desperate to be competitive on all fronts once again when the season starts, beginning with victory over United at Wembley on Saturday.

City have so far only added winger Savio to their squad this summer, but now one of their key players appears to be on the verge of a huge move abroad.

As per Fabrizio Romano, forward Julian Alvarez has agreed a huge move to Spanish side Atletico Madrid.

The Argentine has been heavily linked with a move away from The Etihad for much of the summer so far, and Romano claims that he is now set to join the La Liga side.

Alvarez is set to join Atletico Madrid in a huge deal

Alvarez, 24, joined City from Argentinian side River Plate in 2022, and went on to help City win the treble during his first season in England.

In total the attacker has scored 36 times and provided 18 assists in 103 games for the club across all competitions.

Romano claims that City have accepted an offer in the region of £81.7 million for the Argentina international, who won the World Cup in 2022 and represented his country at both the Copa America in the United States and the Olympic Games in Paris this summer.

It is claimed that Atletico will pay an initial fee of around £65 million, plus a further £17 million in add-ons.

The forward, who can play in a number of roles, is set to sign a five-year-contract with the Spanish side, Romano claims.
