Manchester City secured top spot in Group G of the Champions League on Tuesday following a goalless draw with Borussia Dortmund.

Pep Guardiola’s side were frustrated during the match and missed the chance to go ahead when Riyad Mahrez had a penalty saved.

Kevin de Bruyne was rested for the match, with Ilkay Gundogan and Rodri instead starting in midfield as Guardiola named an attacking line up.

Erling Haaland had to be substituted off at half-time, with Pep Guardiola stating that the ex-Dortmund man had a ‘knock on his foot’, but it is another of the German side’s former players that is now making headlines.

Midfielder Gundogan is being linked with a move away from The Etihad at the end of the season.

The player’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, and Bayern Munich are considering a move for the player, according to 90min.

Gundogan, 32, is currently club captain at City having taken over from the departed Fernandinho, and continues to play a crucial role for Guardiola’s side.

The German scored twice on the final day of last season to give City a 3-2 win over Aston Villa and ensure that the Premier League title headed to Manchester rather than Liverpool.

Gundogan was linked with a move away from City over the summer

City are reportedly keen to ensure that the player signs a new deal and stays put in Manchester, although it remains to be seen whether or not Gundogan will agree to an extension of his current deal.

The midfielder has also featured in 15 of City’s 17 matches across all competitions so far this season, but he could now be offered a return to his native Germany.

Gundogan left Borussia Dortmund to join City back in 2016 for a fee of around £20 million, and he signed a four-year contract extension in 2019.

In total, the Germany international has scored 51 goals and provided 34 assists in 268 games for his current employers.

In that time, he has won four Premier League titles, four League Cups and an FA Cup.

The ex-Nuermberg man has been linked with a move away from City in the past, with a move to Germany rumoured to be on the cards during the recent window.
