Manchester United lifted the FA Cup by beating rivals Manchester City in the final at Wembley on Sunday.

The Red Devils were gifted the lead when a mixup between Josko Gvardiol and goalkeeper Stefan Ortega allowed Alejandro Garnacho to tap in to an empty net.

Fellow teenager Kobbie Mainoo then doubled United’s lead before half-time, and although substitute Jeremy Doku pulled one back in the second half, United held on to lift the cup.

City were therefore unable to record back-to-back league and cup doubles, much to the frustration of manager Pep Guardiola.

In the meantime, though, it appears that City could be in line for a significant change to their squad.

According to Football Insider, Ortega could be in line for a new contract with City, and could also become the club’s first choice ‘keeper.

Ortega’s blunder allowed Man United to go ahead in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday

The report claims that, if current number one Ederson departs The Etihad, Ortega could be rewarded with a contract extension and made first choice ‘keeper under Guardiola.

The 31-year-old joined the Citizens from Arminia Bielefeld back in the summer of 2022, and has acted as back-up to Ederson ever since.

The former Germany youth international has played 33 times for City since arriving in Manchester, including 19 appearances this season.

His current deal is set to expire next summer, but the report claims that he could be in line for a new deal if Brazil international Ederson departs.

The Brazilian has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in recent days, and the report claims that Ortega is likely to be promoted to first choice if he does depart, as opposed to City signing a new recognised number one.
