Manchester City travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.

The Reds currently sit top of the Premier League table, a single point ahead of reigning champions City.

The game on Sunday could go a long way towards deciding which side wins the title this term, while third-placed Arsenal will also be keeping a close eye on events.

In the meantime, one of City’s players could soon become one of the highest earners in the English top flight.

As per Football Insider, midfielder Phil Foden is keen to commit his long-term future to the club and could soon sign a huge new extension.

Foden’s current contract is set to run until the summer of 2027, but the report claims that the player is set for talks over a lucrative extension.

The 23-year-old is a product of City’s youth academy and has already made more than 250 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 78 goals and providing 51 assists.

This season, he has netted 18 times in 40 games and also registered ten assists.

The England international netted a brace in his last outing, as City beat rivals Manchester United 3-1 in the Manchester derby.

After his impressive display, City boss Pep Guardiola labelled Foden ‘the best player in the Premier League right now’.

Foden has already been involved in the first team set up at City for seven seasons, during which time he has lifted no fewer than 12 trophies including five Premier League titles and the Champions League last term.

The Englishman has been deployed in a number of different roles under Guardiola, including central midfield and on both flanks.

Foden was an unused substitute as City beat FC Copenhagen 3-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday.
