Manchester City return to Premier League action on Sunday when they visit Brentford.

The Citizens twice surrendered a lead and were ultimately held to a draw by Monaco in the Champions League group phase on Wednesday, much to the frustration of boss Pep Guardiola.

The Spaniard will expect to see his side improve when they visit West London, but the Bees will undoubtedly provide a stern test for City having beaten their rivals Manchester United last time out.

Ahead of Sunday’s match at The Gtech Community Stadium, it has emerged that one member of Guardiola’s squad is keen to stay put at The Etihad.

According to Football Insider, midfielder Phil Foden is content at Man City and is expecting to sign a new contract with his boyhood club.

The report claims that the England international – who has recently returned to form – could sign a new deal at City with the club keen to build their squad around him for the future.

Foden, 25, is arguably the most successful player to have emerged from City’s youth academy in the Premier League era, although the Englishman endured a difficult campaign last term.

Last season Foden started just 20 of City’s 38 Premier League games, scoring seven times in the competition as City almost failed to qualify for the Champions League.

In total he has scored 102 goals and provided 63 assists in 326 games for City at senior level.

Foden has also won no fewer than 17 trophies during his time with the club, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League.

The midfielder’s current contract with the Citizens is set to expire in 2027, but the report suggests that the club will also be keen to agree a long-term extension with the player as they view him as an important player.
