Man City star fears club could sell him despite only joining last summer

England get their World Cup campaign underway on Monday afternoon as they face Iran in the first game in Group B. 

Gareth Southgate’s side reached the semi-finals of the last World Cup in Russia in 2018, and finished as runners-up at Euro 2020, so will be hoping to go one better and win the tournament for the first time since 1966.

It remains to be seen who will start The Three Lions’ first match of the competition, with a number of players pushing to be given a start.

Jack Grealish will be one of those hopeful of securing a place on the team sheet, having impressed at the Euros last summer.

The winger was one of England’s most impressive performers throughout the tournament, but started only one game.

This time around, he will be hoping to get the nod ahead of the likes of Raheem Sterling and Manchester City teammate Phil Foden.

For City, Grealish has also struggled somewhat to establish himself as a regular starter, and the Englishman is reportedly wary of his situation.

According to Football Insider, the 27-year-old is devastated at his current second-string status and is worried that he may be moved on next summer.

Grealish only joined The Citizens last summer, for a British record fee of £100 million, but he fears that he could be sold at the end of the season to make way for another superstar signing.

He is said to be particularly upset at being overlooked when City were losing to Liverpool last month, when Guardiola decided not to use him as a substitute.

It was a similar story during City’s 2-1 loss to Brentford during their final game before the World Cup break, as the England international remained an unused substitute.

The ex-Aston Villa star has scored seven goals and provided four assists in 55 matches for City so far, however he has already secured a Premier League winners’ medal after they lifted the trophy last season.

He has started just six of their 14 league games so far this season, though, with the likes of Foden and Bernardo Silva often preferred.
