New Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou will be hard at work trying to assemble his squad ahead of next season.

One of the toughest tasks that the Australian will face is persuading Harry Kane to stay put in north London and commit to his side for next season.

The England captain, who has just one year remaining on his contract, is said to be the subject of interest from a number of clubs including Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

In the meantime, the new Spurs boss will be hoping to bring in some new faces ahead of the new season.

Now, though, it appears that the Lilywhites have had a move for a defender from a Premier League rival rejected.

According to Football Insider, Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has snubbed a move to north London.

The report claims that the Spain international could be considered surplus to requirements if City sign a new centre-back this summer.

Laporte won the treble with City last season

Laporte, 29, joined the Citizens from Athletic Bilbao back in 2018 and played a key role for the club during his first season in Manchester, before injuries plagued him during the 2019/20 campaign.

He played regularly during the following two seasons, but the arrivals of Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji over the past couple of seasons have undoubtedly hindered his playing time.

Last term, the Spaniard made just 24 appearances across all competitions and started only 11 Premier League games.

Despite making a total of 179 appearances for City during his five years with the club, it is claimed that the central defender could be allowed to leave The Etihad during the current transfer window.

He has, however, rejected the chance to join Tottenham and the north London club have since turned their attention elsewhere amid their hunt for defensive reinforcements, the report claims.
