Manchester City face Arsenal in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday, with Pep Guardiola’s treble-winners hoping to pick up another piece of silverware.

Last term the Citizens became just the second side in English football history – after rivals Manchester United in 1999 – to win the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup in the same campaign.

Usually the winners of the league and FA Cup would battle it out at Wembley, but Arsenal are City’s opponents after finishing second in the table last term.

One notable absentee from Guardiola’s triumphant side will be midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who departed The Etihad earlier this summer to join Spanish side Barcelona.

Now, it appears that one of his former City teammates could also be joining him in Catalonia.

According to Sport via The Mail, City midfielder Bernardo Silva would push for a move away from the club if the Spanish giants make an offer for him.

Silva could reportedly push to leave Manchester City this summer

Silva, 28, has been linked with a move to Barcelona in each of the past two summer transfer windows but the switch hasn’t yet materialised.

It is claimed, though, that manager Xavi remains a huge admirer of the player and is keen to bring him to Spain this summer.

Silva joined City from French side Monaco back in 2017 and has since played an integral role for the Manchester outfit.

In total the Portugal international has made 306 appearances across all competitions, scoring 55 goals and providing 59 assists.

He has also won no fewer than 14 trophies during his time in Manchester, including five Premier League titles.

In order to fund a move for Silva, Barcelona would need to make at least one major sale in the closing weeks of the transfer window.

Midfielder Franck Kessie is expected to complete a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli, the report claims, for a fee of around £13 million.

City are also believed to have rejected two offers from French side Paris Saint-Germain for the player this summer, with the most recent said to be worth around £64 million.
