Manchester City cruised to an important 4-1 victory over Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

The hosts took the lead at The Etihad, courtesy of midfielder Rodri’s fine finish.

Villa then drew level through Jhon Duran, before England star Phil Foden put Pep Guardiola’s side back in front.

The City academy graduate then scored twice in the second half to register the third Premier League hat-trick of his career, earning City a crucial three points in their bid to retain their Premier League crown.

While the Premier League title race rumbles on, it has emerged that one of City’s most important players has a release clause that will become active soon.

As per Fabrizio Romano, midfielder Bernardo Silva has a £50 million release clause in his contract, which will become active this summer.

The Portuguese star arrived at The Etihad from French side Monaco back in 2017, and has played an integral role for Guardiola’s side ever since.

Silva has been linked with a move away from City during recent transfer windows

In total he has played more than 340 times for the club, scoring 64 goals and providing the same number of assists.

The Portugal international has also won no fewer than 15 trophies during his time in Manchester, including five Premier League titles.

The midfielder. 29, also played a key role for City as they won the treble last term, and has played 38 times so far this season including 26 league games.

Despite his importance to Guardiola’s team, Silva has been heavily linked with a move away from The Etihad in the past.

The contract which includes the soon-to-be-active release clause was signed towards the end of last year, amid potential interest from European clubs including Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.
