Manchester City will be hoping to progress into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup when they face Newcastle United on Wednesday.

City have enjoyed huge success in the competition in recent years but rivals Manchester United are the current holders having beaten the Magpies in last season’s final.

The Citizens’ Premier League title defence has got off to a perfect start, with Pep Guardiola’s side winning all six of their games so far.

Goals from Phil Foden and Erling Haaland earned Guardiola’s side a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, despite midfielder Rodri being sent off shortly after the break.

Newcomers Matheus Nunes, Josko Gvardiol, and Jeremy Doku were all involved in City’s win.

Despite getting those deals over the line during the summer transfer window, City couldn’t complete moves for all of their targets.

Now it seems that one of their summer targets is lined up for a new contract at their current club.

Eze attracted strong interest from Manchester City during the summer

According to Football insider, Crystal Palace want to tie Eberechi Eze down to a new deal to end speculation of a move to The Etihad.

The report claims that the Eagles want to avoid the attacking midfielder entering the final year of his contract, which expires in 2025.

Eze, 25, joined Crystal Palace in the summer of 2020 from Championship side Queen’s Park Rangers.

Since making the switch to the Eagles, he has made 99 total appearances for the South London outfit.

In those 99 appearances, Eze has bagged 16 goals and notched up 13 assists.

The midfielder’s sublime performances in the Premier League have recently earned him the opportunity to represent England at a senior level.

The England international has attracted plenty of potential suitors during the summer window, with Man City being heavily interested in the player, especially when Kevin De Bruyne picked up an injury.

It is believed that the Eagles were looking for at least £70m for the player.
