Manchester City are expected to announce their first January addition shortly with the signing of Australia midfielder Anthony Caceres, according to the official club website.

The Premier League giants, who drew 0-0 with Everton in midweek, are understood to have reached an agreement with A-League side Central Coast Mariners on Friday morning for the playmaker.

The 23-year-old, who started his career at Marconi Stallions, has made 12 league appearances for the Mariners so far this season.

But despite his team sitting rock-bottom in the current standings, central midfielder Caceres has seemingly done enough to impress City boss Manuel Pellegrini to earn a New Year switch to English football.

A statement on the Mariners’ official website read: “The Central Coast Mariners can today confirm that the club has agreed to terms with English Premier League Club Manchester City for the transfer of 23-year-old midfielder Anthony Caceres that will take immediate effect.

“Caceres was plucked from Marconi Stallions by current head coach Tony Walmsley who is looking forward to seeing the 23-year-old reach his potential on the world football stage.”
