Manchester City are set to offer Bernardo Silva a lucrative new deal in an effort to deter interest from abroad and keep the player at The Etihad long term.

That’s according to The Daily Star, who claim that the Premier League champions are readying an offer for the Portuguese that, if accepted, will increase his wages significantly.

The midfielder has attracted interest from both Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona this summer, but City have been reluctant to sell a player that has played a huge role in their success over the past few years.

Silva, 28, was granted permission to move to Barcelona last summer due to ‘family reasons’, but the Spanish side were unable to find the funds to lure the player to Catalunya.

It now looks like they may have missed their opportunity, as City boss Pep Guardiola is intent on keeping hold of the Portugal international.

Barca once again showed an interest in the player this summer, and were more recently joined by PSG in the race for the ex-Monaco man, although both clubs not look set to miss out.

Since joining City from Monaco back in 2017, Silva has made more than 250 appearances for the club, scoring 48 goals and providing 50 assists.

The player’s current deal isn’t due to expire until 2025, but Guardiola is keen to extend his stay in Manchester beyond that, and has instructed those in charge at the club to offer him an increase on his current £150,000-per-week wages.

Last term, Silva played 50 matches across all competitions as City won the Premier League, his fourth since moving to England.
