Manchester City welcome Premier League leaders Arsenal to The Etihad for a pivotal match on Sunday afternoon.

The reigning champions currently sit third in the table, a single point behind the Gunners and second-placed Liverpool, who could move top if they avoid defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion in the earlier match.

Having won a remarkable treble last season, City boss Pep Guardiola will be keen to see his side defend their Premier League title this term.

Victory on Sunday could arguably make the Manchester club favourites to lift the trophy, but Arsenal will undoubtedly provide a tough test for City.

In the meantime, it appears that the Citizens are preparing to reignite their interest in a Premier League midfielder.

According to Football Insider, City are likely to make another attempt to sign West Ham United’s Lucas Paqueta this summer.

Paqueta has been in fine form for West Ham this season

The report claims that an £80 million deal for the central midfielder had been agreed last summer, but ultimately fell through as the player became involved in an investigation into alleged breaches of betting rules.

Paqueta, 26, will likely be pushing behind the scenes for a move to The Etihad, it is claimed.

The Brazilian joined the Hammers from French side Lyon in 2022 and has since made 75 appearances for the East London club across all competitions.

He has scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists for David Moyes’ side since his £51 million club-record move two years ago.

It is claimed that West Ham are expecting City to make another move for the Brazil international, and won’t deny him the transfer if their valuation is met.

Paqueta’s current contract with the Hammers is set to expire at the end of the 2026/27 season.
