Manchester City will be without manager Pep Guardiola for their next two games after the Spaniard underwent surgery.

The Citizens announced on Tuesday that the former Barcelona boss had received ‘routine’ surgery on his back, and will therefore not be in the dugout for their matches against Sheffield United and Fulham.

The reigning Premier League champions have made a strong start to their title defence so far, beating both Burnley and Newcastle United without conceding a goal.

Off the pitch, though, it appears that City could be left frustrated by their pursuit of one of their targets.

According to Football Insider, City are unlikely to reach an agreement to sign RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo this summer.

The report claims that the Manchester outfit had identified the Spaniard as a potential alternative to their prime target, Lucas Paqueta.

City are said to have made an offer for the Hammers midfielder, but he has since been placed under investigation for alleged breaches of FA betting rules and the proposed move is believed to have collapsed.

Olmo scored a hat-trick against Bayern Munich in the DFL Super Cup earlier this month

With that in mind City are looking at alternatives and Olmo, 25, had emerged as a potential target.

The report claims, though, that an agreement is extremely unlikely as the German club are desperate to keep hold of the forward.

The Bundesliga outfit have already lost Christopher Nkunku, Dominik Szoboszlai and Josko Gvardiol during the current transfer window, and are therefore intent on keeping hold of Olmo.

A 31-time Spain international, Olmo joined his current club from Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb back in 2020.

He has since made 125 appearances for his current side across all competitions, scoring 25 goals and providing 29 assists.

Earlier this month he netted a hat-trick as Leipzig defeated Bayern Munich 3-0 in the German Super Cup, and he followed that up with a goal against Bayer Leverkusen on the opening weekend of the Bundesliga season.
