Manchester City’s defence of their Premier League crown got off to a far from perfect start on Sunday, as Pep Guardiola’s side succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to a Harry Kane-less Tottenham Hotspur side.

City have now recorded two defeats from two competitive games this season, after a 1-0 loss to Leicester City in the Community Shield last weekend.

After the loss to Spurs, many were quick to point out just how much the Citizens were missing a goalscorer, having squandered a host of good chances in the second-half.

City have been linked with Spurs forward Kane, who was left out of the match day squad entirely due to a lack of match fitness, relentlessly throughout the window and it appears he remains their priority, despite being offered one of the world’s greatest players.

According to the Mirror, City have sensationally been offered Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

The five-time Ballon d’or winner has reportedly been offered to several of Europe’s top clubs by his agent Jorge Mendes, with City being one of them.

The report suggests, however, that while City have not ruled out a move for the Portuguese, Kane remains their number one target.

Ronaldo has so ar spent two seasons in Turin, but missed out on the Serie A title last term.

The Manchester club are allegedly preparing n improved offer of £130 million for the England captain, but are not willing to meet Daniel Levy’s £150 million price tag.

Former Manchester United star Ronaldo, who scored 118 goals for the Old Trafford club, has also been linked with a shock move to Paris Saint-Germain, that could see him line up alongside Lionel Messi.

The 36-year-old has reportedly been made available for as little as £25 million, but Mendes is yet to find a potential suitor for the five-time Champions League winner.

It is believed that City could make a last minute move for Ronaldo, nearer to the August 31 deadline, if a deal or Kane never materialises.
