Manchester City will look to win a record fifth consecutive English top flight title when the new season starts in August.

Pep Guardiola’s side became the first in English football history to win four top flight titles in a row, and the Spaniard will be desperate to see the Citizens defend their crown and extend the record in doing so.

In the meantime, though, City have allowed one of their most promising young players to leave the club permanently.

Newly-promoted Southampton announced on Monday that defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis had completed a permanent move to the south coast club.

The 22-year-old centre-back spent last season on loan at St. Mary’s and played a key role for Russel Martin’s side as they secured promotion back to the Premier League at the first opportunity.

Harwood-Bellis has completed a permanent switch to Southampton

The Englishman, who has played just eight times for City at senior level, has signed a four-year deal with the Saints.

Last year, the defender captained England to victory at the European Under-21 Championships, having helped Burnley achieve promotion from the Champioship during a loan spell at Turf Moor during the 2022/23 campaign.

He then played 46 times across all competitions for Southampton last season, starting 40 Championship matches.

The announcement also reveals that the move has ocurred after Southampton triggered a clause in Harwood-Bellis’ initial loan deal, with the permanent switch becoming active on July 1.
