This summer could be one of significant change for Manchester United.

Manager Erik ten Hag has guided his side to two domestic cups since arriving at Old Trafford in 2022, and the Dutchman is now set to stay put in Manchester.

The former Ajax boss will likely want to bolster his squad during the current transfer window, and several players are also expected to depart the club.

Now, it appears that United have made a surprise decision about the future of one of their oldest players.

According to Football Insider, the club have agreed a one-year contract extension with veteran centre-back Jonny Evans.

Evans is set to stay put at Old Trafford for another year

The Northern Irishman returned to Old Trafford last summer, nine years after leaving the club to join West Bromwich Albion.

Evans made 30 appearances for Ten Hag’s side across all competitions last term, but his current deal is set to expire at the end of the month.

The report claims, though, that United have agreed a 12 month extension, with official confirmation expected imminently.

The new deal will take Evans beyond his 37th birthday, but he will likely only play a bit-part role for the Red Devils next term.

His defensive teammate Raphael Varane is one of those expected to depart the club in the coming weeks, and there has also been uncertainty surrounding the future of England international Harry Maguire.
