Manchester United have ‘verbally agreed’ to sign Christian Eriksen on a free transfer this summer, according to reports.

As reported by The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the Dane has told United of his intention to join the club, having left Brentford at the start of July.

The 30-year-old spent the second half of last season with the Bees and their manager, Thomas Frank, had made no secret of his desire to land the midfielder on a long-term deal.

It appears that he is set to miss out, though, as the former Tottenham Hotspur man is now on the verge of joining United.

It is not yet clear whether or not the singing of Eriksen will impact the Red Devils’ pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks.

Eriksen, who made more than 300 appearances for Spurs before leaving for Inter Milan in 2020, was also being chased by his former club, but Antonio Conte’s side have also missed out it seems.

During his short stint with Brentford, Eriksen scored one goal and provided four assists in 11 matches.

Erik ten Hag is keen to bolster his squad ahead of his first campaign in English football, with United having registered their lowest ever Premier League points tally last season.
