Man United and Man City were both willing to splash a simply staggering £170m on Barcelona star, Neymar, over the summer according to reports from Mundo Deportivo.

As well as having to fend off interest from each other, the Manchester rivals also reportedly had to deal with competition from European giants, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, who were both also prepared to meet the forwards colossal buyout clause.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Catalan club in 2013, however, snubbed all interested parties and put pen to paper on a new deal with the Spanish champions.

The Brazil international, who was crucial in his sides triumph at the 2016 Rio Olympics over the summer, has bagged a stunning 90 goals in 148 appearances since his move to the Nou Camp, assisting 60 along the way.

With such personalities as Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola in the top seats in Manchester it is hardly surprising that such names are being linked, it may not be long before players of a similar stature follow the likes of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the Premier League.
