Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of Manchester United in the Premier League for the first time when they host Chelsea on Sunday.

The Dutchman was placed in interim charge of the club following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal on Monday, and he guided the Red Devils to a 5-2 win over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

Van Nistelrooy will remain in charge until the upcoming international break, when Ruben Amorim will take charge.

When the Portuguese does arrive, it appears that he could look to complete a sensational signing for his new side.

As per CaughtOffside, Amorim is keen to make a statement signing and could look to land Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratshkelia.

The report suggests that Amorim is eyeing the Georgian as a replacement for winger Antony, who has endured a difficult time in Manchester since joining from Ajax in 2022.

Kvaratskhelia, 23, joined Napoli from Dinamo Batumi in the summer of 2022 and has since played exactly 100 appearances for the Italian side across all competitions.

Kvaratskhelia is a target for new Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim

He has scored 30 goals in that time, as well as providing 28 assists.

The report suggests that the player is currently in talks over an extension to his contract with Napoli, which is set to expire in 2027, but the discussions have stalled.

Kvaratskhelia’s agents are said to be demanding that a low release clause is included in any new deal, but the club are refusing to agree to such terms.

It is also claimed that Napoli have put a £90 million price tag on the winger, who primarily operates on the left flank.

Premier League sides Arsenal and Liverpool are also said to be monitoring the Georgia international, who impressed for his country at the European Championships in Germany over the summer.

Following Ten Hag’s departure, United are said to be ready to allow Antony to depart the club but they first want to source a replacement.

The 24-year-old followed Ten Hag from Amsterdam to Manchester two years ago, but he has since scored just 12 goals for the Red Devils.
