Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is planning a £47.6m bid for Roma defender Kostas Manolas this month, however, it won’t be enough, according to The Sun.

The tabloid are claiming that the Serie A side will demand a record-breaking £52m offer from the Red Devils should they part with their Greek defender in January.

Should Mourinho meet the demands of the Italian outfit a deal for the 25-year-old, it will break the £50m record fee for a defender, set when French giants Paris Saint-Germain signed Chelsea’s David Luiz.

However, it may take more that just a big bid from the hierarchy at Old Trafford to engineer a deal for the Greece international, with Premier League rivals Everton also reportedly interested.

The former Chelsea manager seems adamant on beefing up his back line this month, having publicly criticised the likes of Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling since arriving over the summer.
