Manchester United scored twice late on to complete a stunning comeback against rivals Manchester City on Sunday.

The hosts had gone ahead at The Etihad through Josh Gvardiol’s first-half header, and Pep Guardiola’s side looked certain to end their run of just one win in ten matches until the visitors netted twice late on.

Bruno Fernandes drew the Red Devils level from the penalty spot after Amad Diallo had been fouled, before the winger then found the back of the net in added time to earn United all three points and condemn City to yet another defeat.

The result leaves United 13th in the Premier League table, while reigning champions City occupy fifth place.

Off the pitch, United appear to be close to reaching an agreement over a new contract with one of their key players.

According to Football Insider, the Manchester club are in advanced talks with winger Diallo about a new contract.

The Ivory Coast international is contracted to the Red Devils until the end of the current campaign, but the report claims that United are working to agree new terms that would see the player commit his long-term future to the club.

Diallo scored a late winner for Manchester United at The Etihad on Sunday

Diallo, 22, first joined United from Italian side Atalanta in 2021, and has since spent time on loan at Scottish side Rangers and Championship club Sunderland.

His goal against City on Sunday was the winger’s fourth of the season for United, with the Ivorian having established himself as a key player for new United head coach Ruben Amorim.

The report claims that United have made reaching an agreement with the winger a priority, in the wake of his recent resurgence under Amorim.

It is claimed that the remaining negotiations are expected to be a formality, with Diallo set to commit his long-term future to the Old Trafford outfit.
