Manchester United travel to the south coast to face Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Ruben Amorim’s side suffered a humiliating 1-0 defeat against Wolves last time out, a result which leaves them 14th in the Premier League table.

The Red Devils’ only chance of playing in Europe next season is therefore by winning this season’s Europa League, which would secure them a place in next term’s Champions League.

Amorim will be desperate to see his side lift the trophy, but they face a tough semi-final tie against Spanish side Athletic Bilbao.

In the meantime, it has emerged that United are closing in on a shock deal for a Championship goalkeeper.

According to Football Insider, Man United are hoping to agree a deal to sign Preston North End ‘keeper Freddie Woodman on a free transfer this summer.

Onana has struggled this season

The 28-year-old spent time with both Crystal Palace and Newcastle United during his younger years, and has since played for six other clubs including Hartlepool United, Kilmarnock and Swansea City.

Woodman joined Preston in the summer of 2022 and has since played 138 times for the club across all competitions, keeping 44 clean sheets.

His contract with Preston is set to expire this summer, though, and the ‘keeper looks set to leave Deepdale.

It is claimed that United are hoping to sign Woodman as a free agent to act as their third-choice goalkeeper; a position currently occupied by Tom Heaton who is set to leave the club at the end of the current campaign.

United’s first choice ‘keeper, Andre Onana, has endured a disappointing individual campaign and has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

Amorim and those in charge of United’s recruitment could therefore be set to oversee significant change in the goalkeeping department this summer.
