Ruben Amorim took charge of his first Manchester United training session on Monday, ahead of their game against Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon.

The Portuguese was appointed as the Red Devils’ new head coach earlier this month, following the departure of Erik ten Hag.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was placed in temporary charge, but Amorim has now left Sporting CP to take over at Old Trafford and he will hope to see his side pick up all three points at Portman Road on Sunday.

In the meantime, it appears that United are pondering a move for a Chelsea player that has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge.

According to GiveMeSport, the Manchester club are on the hunt for a new left-back and could move for Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell.

It is claimed that those in charge of united’s recruitment have identified the left full-back position as one that requires strengthening urgently.

Chilwell has played just once for Chelsea this season

Chilwell, 27, joined Chelsea from Leicester City in 2021 and has since played more than 100 times for the club, but he has fallen almost completely out of favour under new head coach Enzo Maresca.

The England international has played just once for the Blues so far this term, and is therefore also currently out of the frame for the Three Lions squad.

Chilwell’s current £200,000-per-week deal with Chelsea is set to run until the summer of 2027, but United feel they may be able to lure him away from London as he is deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge at present.

It is claimed that United feel they should be able to agree a cut-price fee for the left-back, whose only appearance of the season so far came in a Carabao Cup tie against League Two side Barrow.

The report also suggests that Amorim’s arrival has reignited United’s interest in long-term target Chilwell, as the Englishman could fit into the Portuguese’s preferred 3-4-3 system.
