Manchester United will face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup fourth round after defeating Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

A 3-1 victory was enough to earn Erik ten Hag’s side a win over the Eagles, who will now face the Magpies for a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Despite the win, United have endured a difficult start to the new season, winning just three of their six Premier League games so far.

That run of form has left the club ninth in the Premier League table, although they have now won three consecutive matches across all competitions.

Despite improving on the pitch, Ten Hag has had to deal with problems off the pitch as winger Jadon Sancho has been banished from the first team.

The England international is facing internal disciplinary proceedings after criticising the Dutchman on social media, and he is currently training away from the first team.

Recent events have thrown his future at the club into doubt, and it appears that the club are searching for possible replacements.

Chiesa has emerged as a surprise target for Manchester United

According to Calciomercato via Goal, the Manchester outfit are monitoring Juventus star Federico Chiesa and could make a move for the player if Sancho departs Old Trafford.

Chiesa, 25, joined Juventus on loan from Fiorentina in 2020 and made his move to Turin permanent two years later.

In total he has made exactly 100 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 26 goals and providing 21 assists.

So far this season he has scored four goals and provided one assist in six top flight games.

Chiesa’s current contract is set to expire in 2025 but the report claims that the Serie A side are considering offering him an extension that would earn him around £4.3 million-per-year.

However, it also suggests that the club would allow the Italy international to leave if they received an offer in the region of £50 million.
