Manchester United return to action on Tuesday as they host Charlton Athletic in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

The League One side will arrive at Old Trafford to face an in-form United, who have won each of their last five matches across all competitions.

United’s impressive run – which has included three Premier League wins – has been helped massively by the form of Marcus Rashford.

The England international appears to have become The Red Devils’ primary goal threat since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, with the academy product scoring in each of his five games since the World Cup.

Despite Rashford’s recent record, it appears that Erik ten Hag is still keen to sign a forward this month.

According to Calcio Mercato via The Mail, United could make a shock move for ex-Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko.

The Bosnian forward currently plays for Serie A side Inter Milan, but his contract is set to expire at the end of the season and there has so far been no indication that he will be offered an extension.

Dzeko, 36, spent five years at The Etihad – including a season-long loan spell at Roma – before joining the Italian club permanently in 2016.

He scored 72 goals in 89 matches for The Citizens, winning two Premier League titles and two domestic cups during that time.

Since moving to Italy, the striker has maintained his fine goal scoring record, netting 119 goals for Roma, and scoring 27 times in 72 games for Inter so far.

This season, the striker has scored ten goals in 23 matches across all competitions, including four goals in his last four Serie A games.

Despite his performances, Inter are yet to offer the player a new deal and he therefore looks likely to leave the San Siro in the summer.

Inter’s other option would be to allow Dzeko to leave the club this month, although United could face competition from Spanish giants Real Madrid who are reportedly considering the Bosnia and Herzegovina international as a replacement for Karim Benzema.

The Red Devils are in need of attacking reinforcements following Ronaldo’s departure in November, with Jadon Sancho also currently unavailable.

Ten Hag has been left with only Rashford and Anthony Martial as striking options, and is therefore eyeing a move for Dzeko.

A number of other names have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, including Joao Felix, Vincent Aboubakar and Marcus Thuram.
