Manchester United continue their Europa League campaign with a trip to Portugal to face Porto on Thursday night.

The Red Devils were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Dutch Eredivisie side FC Twente in their opening match of the European campaign, and manager Erik ten Hag will be desperate to see his side pick up three points on Thursday.

It has been a tricky start to the new season for Ten Hag, who was under pressure last term before seemingly saving his job by beating rivals Manchester City to lift the FA Cup.

United have started this campaign in poor form, though, winning just three of their nine games so far across all competitions.

Last time out the Red Devils were humiliated 3-0 at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, with captain Bruno Fernandes being sent off at Old Trafford.

Despite increasing pressure on Ten Hag, it appears that the former Ajax boss is still planning ahead for the upcoming January transfer window.

Manchester United could be on the hunt for a new striker

As per GiveMeSport, the Manchester outfit are seriously considering signing a new striker when the window reopens in the new year.

This news comes just months after United splashed the cash on forward Joshua Zirkzee, who hasn’t scored since netting on his debut against Fulham in August.

Rasmus Hojlund was also signed from Italian side Atalanta last summer, while Ten Hag also has the likes of Marcus Rashford as viable options to lead the line.

It appears that the Dutchman is unhappy with his squad, though, having seen his side score just five times this season; for context, both Liverpool and Tottenham have scored more goals at Old Trafford than United have managed in the Premier League this term.

It is claimed that those in charge of the club are aware that United’s current squad lacks a natural, proven goalscorer.

Zirkzee has scored just once in eight games this season, while Hojlund has struggled with injuries of late.
