Manchester United’s superb second-half comeback against Aston Villa earned Erik ten Hag a much needed victory on Tuesday.

The visitors raced into a 2-0 lead at Old Trafford, before an Alejandro Garnacho brace drew the Red Devils level after the break.

Striker Rasmus Hojlund then netted his first Premier League goal to put United ahead for the first time, and Ten Hag’s side held on to secure a vital three points.

Hojlund, who cost United more than £70 million when joining from Atalanta over the summer, will hope that he can now recreate his best goal scoring form after finding the net in the top flight for the first time.

Despite the Dane netting his first Premier League goal, it appears that those in charge of Man United’s recruitment are considering a shock move for another Serie A striker.

As per Sport1 via The Standard, the Manchester club are monitoring Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee.

Zirkzee has attracted interest from Manchester United

The 22-year-old joined his current side from German giants Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022, and has since scored ten goals in 40 games across all competitions, as well as providing six assists.

He has been particularly impressive this season, netting eight goals in 19 games so far.

Bayern are said to have a buy-back clause included in the deal that saw Zirkzee move to Italy but, if the German champions don’t activate it, the report claims that United could make a move to sign the Dutchman.

The ex-Netherlands Under-21 international has also previously spent time with Belgian club Anderlecht, where he netted 18 times in 47 games.

His current contract is set to expire in 2026, but it remains to be seen whether or not Bologna would agree to let him leave before that date.
