Manchester United will be looking to continue their strong run of form when they welcome Charlton Athletic to Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Erik ten Hag’s side have won five matches in a row across all competitions, and they will be looking to reach the last four of the Carabao Cup when they face The Addicks in the quarter-finals of the competition.

The Dutchman may choose to rotate his squad for the visit of the League One side, with some of his younger players pushing to start the game.

Marcus Rashford looks set to start once again, though, with the Englishman in fine form at present.

Since the World Cup, the England international has scored in all five of United’s matches across all competitions, taking his tally for the season to 13.

Despite his impressive form in front of goal, United are still seeking a new striker, and talks are ongoing with one of their top targets.

According to Fabrizio Romano, The Red Devils remain locked in talks with both Burnley and Besiktas over a proposed move for Wout Weghorst.

The Netherlands international is currently on loan in Turkey from the Championship club, which could make an agreement more tricky.

Despite this, Romano claims that both the player and United are confident of finding an agreement.

Weghorst was part of the Netherlands squad that were eliminated from the World Cup by Argentina

Weghorst, 30, signed for The Clarets in January 2022 but failed to impress during the second half of last season, scoring just two goals.

He was then sent on loan to Besiktas last summer, and has since scored eight goals in 16 matches in the Turkish top flight, including one against Kasimpasa on Saturday.

The striker is set to rejoin Burnley at the end of the current season, but United’s interest means he may well be leaving Besiktas even sooner.

The player himself is said to be very keen on the prospect of joining Ten Hag’s side, with Romano claiming that he ‘doesn’t want to miss this big chance’.

Throughout his career, Weghorst has played for a number of clubs, primarily in Holland.

The striker boasts an impressive goal scoring record, having scored 45 goals in 86 matches for AZ Alkmaar and 21 times in 66 games for FC Emmen.

He did also spend four years with German side Wolfsburg, where he netted 70 times in 144 matches.

United have been on the hunt for a new striker ever since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo back in November.

The Portuguese’s departure left Ten Hag with only Rashford and Anthony Martial as options in attack, and the Dutchman has since decided that he wants to bolster his squad in that department.
