Manchester United earned their first win of pre-season on Saturday as they defeated Scottish side Rangers 2-0.

Amad Diallo and Joe Hugill were on the scoresheet for Erik ten Hag’s side as they bounced back from a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Rosenborg on Monday.

The Dutchman has defied intense pressure last season and has since signed a new contract with the Red Devils.

The former Ajax boss will be desperate to see his side improve in the Premier League during the upcoming season, after United slumped to an eighth-placed finish last term.

Now, United are said to have made a significant decision in regard to their transfer plans.

As per Fabrizio Romano, United have rejected the chance to sign midfielder Sofyan Amrabat for a fee of around £16.8 million, although they do remain interested in the player.

Amrabat lifted the FA Cup with Manchester United last term

The Red Devils had the opportunity to activate an option-to-buy clause that was included in the deal that took the midfielder to Manchester last summer, but those in charge of their recruitment have informed his current side, Fiorentina, that they do not intend to do so.

Romano does claim, though, that the Premier League side are still interested in signing Amrabat this summer, with Ten Hag a big fan of the midfielder.

United will therefore attempt to discuss a different deal with their Italian counterparts, although Amrabat has also attracted interest from other European clubs.

Amrabat impressed with Morocco at the 2022 World Cup and then joined United on loan last summer.

He made a total of 30 appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils last term, including 21 in the Premier League.
