Manchester United host relegation-threatened Ipswich Town on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils have won just three of their last 13 Premier League games and linger down in 15th place in the top flight table.

Ruben Amorim’s side are therefore at serious risk of failing to qualify for any form of European competition next term, although they could do so if they win the Europa League this season.

The Portuguese’s first match in charge of United was against the Tractor Boys – a 2-2 draw at Portman Road in November – and Amorim will be desperate to record just his fourth league win on Wednesday night.

In the meantime, though, it has emerged that the club are delaying contract talks with one of their most important players.

As reported by GiveMeSport, the Manchester club are set to wait until midfielder Kobbie Mainoo returns from injury before resuming contract talks with the player.

The 19-year-old – who is currently sidelined with a muscle injury – is under contract with United until the summer of 2027.

Mainoo is currently injured

United, however, are keen to agree an extension with the player and ensure his long-term future will be at Old Trafford.

The teenager is a product of United’s youth academy and has played 60 times for the club at senior level.

He enjoyed a fine breakthrough season last term and forced his way into the England squad, travelling to the European Championships as part of Gareth Southgate’s squad.

The report claims that Amorim is keen for those in charge of United’s to reward his most important players with new contracts, with Mainoo among those regarded as a key player.

Mainoo’s current contract earns him around £20,000-per-week, and Amorim is keen for the England international to be rewarded with improved terms.

Members of the club’s hierarchy are keen to wait until the midfielder is back to full fitness before discussing terms, although the club are said to be intent on agreeing a deal before the summer.
