Manchester United welcome the Premier League’s bottom side, Wolves, to Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

Ruben Amorim’s side beat Newcastle United 1-0 on Boxing Day, leaving them sixth in the top flight standings.

The Portuguese will hope to see his side beat Wolves, who are yet to win a single match in the league so far this term.

In the meantime, however, it appears that United are hoping to re-sign one of their former players.

According to CaughtOffside, the Manchester outfit are hoping to sign midfielder Scott McTominay from Italian champions Napoli.

The Scottish midfielder joined Napoli from United in the summer of 2024, having made more than 250 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Since moving to Italy he has enjoyed a meteoric rise, having been named Serie A Player of the Year after scoring 12 goals and providing six assists in 34 league games as Napoli stormed to the top flight title.

This season the Scot has continued to impress for both club and country – scoring a stunning Scotland’s free-kick as Steve Clarke’s side beat Denmark 4-2 to reach the World Cup in the United States net year.

Despite his importance to Antonio Conte’s side, the report suggests that Napoli could consider allowing McTominay to depart Naples for a fee in the region of £60 million.

The midfielder is contracted to the Serie A champions until the end of the 2027/28 season, but the report even suggests that the Italian side could consider allowing the players to leave in January for the right price.

Manchester United are said to regret allowing McTominay to leave Old Trafford last year, while Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Arsenal are also said to be monitoring the Scotland international’s situation, with the former viewing him as a good squad rotation option.
