Manchester United will take on Belgian league leaders R.S.C Anderlecht in the quarter-finals of the Europa League next month.

Jose Mourinho’s men edged past FC Rostov 2-1 on aggregate after winning 1-0 at Old Trafford on Thursday night, with Juan Mata’s strike 20 minutes from time sealing their passage through to the last eight.

And it is there where they will meet Anderlecht, who came second in their group behind Saint-Etienne, who United beat in the round of 32, and have since got past Zenit and Apoel Nicosia in the knockout stages.

The Belgian outfit are currently top of their league having won 18 of their 30 matches this term, and have lost just one of their last 15 to lead Club Brugge by two points at the summit.

United have not played Anderlecht since 2000, when they met in the group stages of the Champions League with Sir Alex Ferguson’s men winning 5-1 at Old Trafford, but losing 2-1 in the return game a month later.

In fact, the Red Devils have lost their last two games away to the Belgian side, but several United fans took to Twitter to express their delight at the draw…

With many supporters also pleased that the club have a relatively short journey after the 4,500 mile round trip to Rostov in the previous round…
