New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim takes charge of his first training session with his new side on Monday.

The Portuguese has left his role with Sporting CP to take charge at Old Trafford, but he inherits a United side that currently sit 13th in the Premier League table.

Amorim will take his team to Portman Road to face newly-promoted Ipswich Town on Sunday, and the 39-year-old will hope to get his tenure off to a winning start.

In the meantime, it has emerged that United have made a decision on the short-term future of one of their summer singings.

According to Football Insider, United will not rush into a decision on striker Joshua Zirkzee’s future and will instead give the player a chance to prove himself.

Zirkzee has failed to score in any of his last 16 matches for United

Zirkzee, 23, cost United around £36.5 million when they signed him from Italian side Bologna over the summer, but he made an instant impact in Manchester by betting the winner against Fulham on the opening night of the Premier League season.

Since then, though, the Dutchman has failed to score in 16 matches across all competitions.

That has prompted speculation that he could be loaned out in January, but the report claims that United will instead keep hold of the Netherlands international beyond the mid-season window.

Italian sides Juventus and Napoli have been linked with a move for Zirkzee, who scored 14 times in 58 games during his time with Bologna.

The report claims, however, that the striker will be given a chance to ignite his Old Trafford career under new boss Amorim.

Zirkzee is contracted to the Red Devils until the end of the 2028/29 campaign, but those in charge of the club will hope to see him improve during the second half of the current season.
