Man United executives have been holding further talks over a deal to sign sought after Atletico Madrid forward, Antoine Griezmann as a long term replacement for captain Wayne Rooney, according to reports from The Mirror.

The report claims that Ed Woodward has made it very clear that the France international is Mourinho’s top target next summer, although they will face competition from Chelsea.

The 25-year-old turned heads around the continent with his performances at the European Championships, where he scored six goals on the way to the final in Paris.

With Atlei manager, Diego Simeone, set to leave at the end of the season, the powers that be in Madrid are reportedly resigned to the fact that they will lose their star man, who is currently rated at £80m.

According to the Mirror, Griezmann – who is a close friend of his compatriot, Paul Pogba – has snubbed approaches from Paris Saint-Germain in favour of a move to the Premier League, which puts the Red Devils in a prime position.
