Manchester United have entered into the race to sign Christian Eriksen on a free transfer when his contract at Brentford expires later this month.

According to The Mirror, the Red Devils have emerged as a contender to sign the Dane as manager Erik ten Hag looks to make the most of his budget for this summer.

The Dutchman has reportedly been given around £200 million to spend during the upcoming window, but considering how poor United were last season, he may well need to make the most of free transfers too if he is going to turn United into a competitive side.

Eriksen, 30, returned to the Premier League in January as he signed a short term deal with Brentford, and impressed during the second half of the season.

The ex-Inter Milan star previously spent almost seven years in London with Tottenham Hotspur, and made more than 300 appearances for the club in that time.

Eriksen returned to the Denmark national team earlier this year and will be hopeful of being included in their World Cup squad

Antonio Conte’s side are rumoured to be one of the clubs interested in signing the midfielder when his deal with the Bees expired; the pair worked together in Italy and won the Serie A title with Inter Milan during the 2021/22 season.

The Danish international trained with Ten Hag’s Ajax side after being released by Inter in towards the end of last year, and the Dutchman was reportedly very impressed with the player’s abilities.

That has encouraged him to make an offer for Eriksen, as he believes that the midfielder can play a big part in his rebuilding of the United squad.

Brentford have made an offer to Eriksen that would make him the club’s highest earner but with United, Spurs and Everton now in contention, it remains to be seen whether or not he will remain in west London.

Spurs’ qualification for Champions League football could be a deciding factor in the Dane’s decision making, with the possibility of returning to his former side already an attractive proposition.
