Thomas Tuchel was officially appointed as the new England manager on Wednesday.

The announcement ends months of speculation surrounding the role, in the wake of Gareth Southgate’s departure following the Three Lions’ 2-1 European Championship final defeat against Spain.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola had been touted as a potential permanent successor to Southgate, with the Spaniard’s contract set to expire next summer.

Now, though, former Chelsea boss Tuchel will take charge and Guardiola’s future remains to be seen.

In the meantime, it appears that City face competition from one of their fiercest rivals for a talented midfielder.

According to TBR Football, both Manchester clubs are interested in Rosenborg starlet Sverre Nypan.

City already have two Norwegians – Oscar Bobb and Erling Haaland – in their current squad

The teenager has impressed in the Norwegian top flight over the past year or so and, despite his age, he has already played more than 50 times for the club.

Nypan is said to have attracted interest from several European clubs – including Marseille, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund – and United are therefore keen to move quickly for the teenager in a bid to fend off interest from elsewhere.

The Red Devils and the Citizens are both said to have had representatives in Norway this week to watch the midfielder in action for their Under-21s against Turkey.

United are said to have been keeping tabs on the impressive youngster since he was 15, and the Manchester club are said to have held talks which are set to accelerate in the coming weeks and months.

Nypan has less than two years remaining on his current contract with Rosenborg, who currently sit fifth in the Norwegian Eliteserien.

It is claimed that United are now ready to attempt to reach an agreement to sign Nypan.
