Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim will hope to see his side build on their win last time out when they face Liverpool after the international break.

The Red Devils defeated newly-promoted Sunderland 2-0 at Old Trafford in their last outing, with Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko on the scoresheet.

Victory over the Black Cats lifted United up to tenth in the Premier League table, and next up the Manchester giants now face a Liverpool side that have lost their last three matches across all competitions.

Ahead of the game, it has been revealed that Man United are in talks to agree a new contract with one of their most experienced players.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Manchester giants are in talks to agree a new deal with centre-back Harry Maguire.

The journalist claims that the two parties are in talks to extend Maguire’s contract, with the defender’s current contract set to expire next summer.

Maguire, 32, joined United from Leicester City back in 2019 and has since endured mixed fortunes at Old Trafford.

He has been criticised for poor patches of form over recent seasons, but in total the Englishman has now played more than 250 times for the club across all competitions.

Romano claims that those in charge of the club are happy with Maguire’s contribution and value his leadership skills.

The club have therefore held face-to-face discussions with Maguire’s representatives in recent days, he claims, with further talks set to take place.

So far this term the England international has featured in six of United’s seven Premier League matches, as well as starting the Red Devils’ Carabao Cup defeat against Grimsby Town.
