Manchester United face Championship side Coventry City in the semi-finals of the FA Cup on Sunday.

The Red Devils have endured a difficult season so far, and the FA Cup is their only remaining change of silverware this term.

Erik ten Hag’s side were dumped out of the Champions League at the group stage and are currently seventh in the Premier League table, prompting speculation about the future of the Dutchman.

One man that is unlikely to be leaving Old Trafford anytime soon, though, is young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.

The 18-year-old is enjoying an outstanding breakthrough season in Manchester, and Football Insider claims that United are close to agreeing a new contract with the midfielder.

Mainoo missed the start of the season after suffering an ankle injury, but has since made a total of 24 appearances across all competitions including 18 Premier League games.

Mainoo has been in fine form for United this season

He has scored three goals in total, including a stunning strike during a 2-2 draw against fierce rivals Liverpool earlier this month.

The teenager’s impressive performances even earned him a senior England call up, and the midfielder made two appearances for Gareth Southgate’s side during the most recent international break.

Mainoo’s current contract with the club is set to run until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, but the report claims that he is set to sign a new deal that will earn him a ‘huge’ pay rise.

This is despite the player only signing his current deal in February last year, having made his senior debut for the Red Devils the previous month.

After playing three times last term, Mainoo has been a regular in United’s midfield for the past six months.

He has started each of United’s last 16 Premier League games, and has also been involved in each of their four FA Cup matches so far.
