Ruben Amorim will take charge of Manchester United for the first time when they face Ipswich Town on Sunday.

The Portuguese was appointed as the Red Devils’ head coach earlier this month, succeeding Erik ten Hag who was sacked in October.

Amorim will have a number of issues to address when he takes charge, with the Red Devils currently a long way off the pace in the race for Champions League qualification.

In the meantime, it appears that United are chasing a Bundesliga midfielder.

According to Tobi Altschaffl on the FC Bayern Insider Podcast via TBR Football, the Manchester outfit are keen on Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka.

It is claimed that United have not yet been offered the Germany international, but those in charge of the club’s recruitment are considering a move for him next summer.

Goretzka is a target for Manchester United

The 29-year-old signed for Bayern after leaving fellow German side Schalke in 2018, and has since made 230 appearances for the Bavarian giants across all competitions.

Goretzka has scored 41 goals in that time, as well as registering 46 assists across all competitions.

The German has started just one of ten Bundesliga games so far this term, though, seemingly falling slightly out of favour since the arrival of Vincent Company over the summer.

He is contracted to Bayern until the end of next season, which could tempt the club into cashing in on him next summer if the player doesn’t appear likely to extend his stay.

United are on the hunt for midfield reinforcements with doubts over the futures of both Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

Goretzka, who can play as a central midfielder or in an advanced role, could therefore be a useful option for the newly-appointed Amorim.
