Holders Manchester United came from behind to secure a controversial win over Leicester City in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday evening.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid had given the visitors a surprise first-half lead at Old Trafford, before striker Joshua Zirkzee levelled things after the break.

The tie looked set for extra-time until former Foxes man Harry Maguire headed home Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick to send the Red Devils through to round five.

Leicester were left frustrated as Maguire was in a clearly offside position before scoring the winner, although VAR was not in use at Old Trafford and Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side therefore exit the competition.

Despite progressing into the fifth round of the competition, United head coach Ruben Amorim was once again left frustrated at his side’s below-par performance.

Those in charge of the club’s recruitment may look to bolster Amorim’s squad once again this summer, and it has emerged that the Manchester outfit are eyeing a move for an England international.

As per TEAMtalk, Man United are interested in Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, 21.

The report suggests that the Red Devils have been interested in the Englishman for some time now, and had previously planned to offload veteran midfielder Christian Eriksen to make room for the youngster.

Wharton has recently returned from a groin injury

Wharton joined the Eagles from Championship side Blackburn Rovers in early 2024, having made more than 50 senior appearances for his boyhood club.

Upon moving to London he immediately established himself as a key player for Palace, and forced his way into the England squad for the European Championships in Germany last summer.

He has struggled with injuries this term, though, only making his return from a groin problem last week.

It is claimed that United plan to keep monitoring the England midfielder in the coming weeks now that he is back to full fitness.

If he impresses, the Manchester outfit could make a move to sign the youngster this summer.

Wharton is contracted the Eagles until the summer of 2029, and the report claims that both Manchester City and Newcastle United are also keeping tabs his situation.
