Manchester United will hope to save their season when they face rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

Erik ten Hag’s side finished their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday, but despite the result the Red Devils still finished eighth in the top flight table.

Ten Hag will be desperate to see his side beat City at Wembley, with United having lost to their Manchester rivals in last year’s final as the Citizens went on to complete a remarkable treble.

In the meantime, United are reportedly chasing a French defender.

According to 90min, United are one of a number of clubs chasing Red Bull Salzburg defender Oumar Solet.

Solet has been in fine form for RB Salzburg this season

The 24-year-old joined Salzburg from French side Lyon in 2020 and has since made more than 100 appearances for his current club across all competitions, including 28 so far this season.

United face competition from several top European clubs in the race to sign the centre-back, with clubs in Serie A and Ligue 1, as well as German giants Bayern Munich, all said to have shown interest.

It is claimed that fellow Premier League clubs Brighton, West Ham United and Aston Villa are all also interested in the Frenchman.

Solet will soon enter into the final 12 months of his existing contract with Salzburg, and the Austrian giants could therefore opt to cash in on him this summer as opposed to losing him for free next year.

United are set to be in the market for at least one central defender this summer, with veteran centre-back Raphael Varane set to leave the club when his deal expires.

Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof also face uncertain futures at Old Trafford, making centre-back a hugely important area for the club to focus on in the transfer window.
