The Premier League returns on Saturday, with reigning champions Liverpool hosting rivals Manchester United in the pick of the weekend’s games.

Arne Slot’s champions suffered a third consecutive defeat across all competitions as they were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea prior to the international break, while the Red Devils returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Sunderland.

United head coach Ruben Amorim has endured a tough time since taking charge of the club in November last year, and the Portuguese is under increasing pressure to turn his side’s fortunes around after a disastrous start to the new campaign.

With that in mind, it has emerged that the Manchester outfit could be eyeing a move for a striker currently playing in Saudi Arabia.

According to Fichajes via CaughtOffside, Manchester United remain interested in Italy striker Mateo Retegui and could make a move to sign the player next year.

Retegui, 26, joined Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah from Atalanta over the summer, having scored 25 goals in 36 Serie A matches last term.

Since making the move to the Middle East, Retegui has scored three times in five games for Al-Qadsiah, but the report claims that United are still interested in the striker despite his move.

It is claimed that the Red Devils could be willing to lodge an offer in the region of £43-52 million for the Italy international, who has scored 11 goals in 24 caps for his country at senior level.

Retegui, who represented Argentina at youth level, is under contract in Saudi Arabia until the end of the 2027/28 season, but it is claimed that United view him as an ideal candidate to bolster Amorim’s squad next year.

The report also suggests that United, who are interested in Retegui despite signing Benjamin Sesko earlier this year, have been admirers of the Italian for some time now.
